Horton Plains

Overview

Horton Plains National Park is a highland plateau of grassland and cloud forest at around 2,100–2,300 metres elevation, best known for World’s End, a sheer cliff that drops nearly 880 metres to the plains below. It’s one of Sri Lanka’s most rewarding, if chilly, natural attractions.

The park’s signature circular walking trail passes through misty grasslands, stunted cloud forest and Baker’s Falls before reaching the World’s End viewpoint, best seen before clouds roll in mid-morning. As part of the Central Highlands UNESCO World Heritage Site, it also protects endemic wildlife found nowhere else.
